Eastern Shore Virginia Real Estate |
|
The Eastern Shore of Virginia lies between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It stretches 70 miles but has hundreds of miles of shoreline. It is comprised of tiny waterfront towns such as Chincoteague Island, Tangier Island, Onancock and Cape Charles, Virginia. Two counties define the area, Accomack in the north and Northampton in the south. Getting to these small Eastern Shore towns entails traveling the 17.5-mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, a modern engineering marvel.
In addition to the miles of shoreline and waterfront properties, many visitors are attracted to this area for the farmland, forests, mini-farms and quaint inns and restaurants. The largest town, Chincoteague, is home of the annual Pony Penning and carnival event in the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. Only 2.5 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, Tangier Island is located in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay and can be reached only by a passenger ferryboat. Cape Charles and Onancock are two bayside waterfront towns that attract many visitors. Onancock’s harbor and marina serve the boating public. Cape Charles is rich with architectural detail and has attracted many primary and second home buyers. In the Historic District of Cape Charles you can find Victorian, Colonial Revival, Craftsman and Neo-classical styles of homes. Newer communities such as Bay Creek, a residential golf and marina community, offer Eastern Shore real estate opportunities ranging from luxury estate homes to condos.
